About Us
What is an Escape Room?
Picture this: You, your friends, family or co-workers are placed in one of our themed rooms for an hour, with only their wits and problem-solving skills to find a way out as the pressure builds around them. Some call it a murder mystery on steroids, gamified theater, a living puzzle, real-life video games, interactive entertainment, or an intense team-building experience. Northern Utah calls it The Great Room Escape, and one the first escape rooms to open its doors in Layton in July of 2016.
Each room concept is fully immersive, has a tension or pressure element, making it just a little more challenging to recall the simplest of steps needed to solve puzzles. This element makes the escape rooms the perfect environment for team building.
A concept that started in Japan in 2007 spread to Europe and is finally making its way to the United States. Almost 3,000 escape rooms are found in 65 countries and more than 700 cities, according to the Escape Room Directory. Business is booming since the first escape room opened on U.S. soil in 2012. More are opening every day, and Layton’s owners expect to open more Utah locations in the future.
Layton Great Room Escape has five exciting games to choose from: Houdini, Cabin, Countdown, Ghost Hotel, and The Quest. The partners felt the variety of games offered several extremes of the escape room concept and should appeal to a wide variety of guests. Plans to add even more games are already under way.
While the Layton partners encourage Utahns to get in on the escape room craze no matter the venue, they say the Great Room Escape is unique because of its quality, Hollywood-worthy interactive sets, attention to detail, and cohesive clue streams. It is truly a 4-D experience involving all the senses.
The Great Room Escape will never be done being built! Imagination and innovation is at the core of the company, and they will continually expand or change out games to keep The Great Room Escape a fresh and exiting place to visit!!

Who are we?
Three partners have pooled their resources and know-how to bring Great Room Escape to Northern Utah. All Utah natives, the team has been visiting other escape rooms across the country and is pleased to bring the experience to their friends and family at home. Together, the local team members boast a combined 46 years in the themed attraction industry.
Andrew Wilson
Andrew, who assembled the team, has been in the banking industry for over two decades handling sales, managing branches and working as a fully licensed broker. On the side, he became involved in the themed attraction industry 16 years ago, always harboring a love for all things spooky, mysterious and fun.
“In an escape room, you live the movie,” said Andrew Wilson, who is in charge of marketing and corporate events. “You are Indiana Jones or James Bond.”
Greg Andersen
Greg has been in the themed attraction industry for 30 years, specializing in construction and sound design both nationally and internationally. Disney and Cirque de Soleil are recipients of his expertise he now brings to Great Room Escape.
“It is a full-sensory and complete immersive experience,” said Greg Andersen, who serves as general manager of the venue.
Ty Chaston
Ty rounds out the group with 18 years in IT and 10 years in banking, as well as more recent investing and management experience. While the other three were familiar with escape rooms, Chaston’s first experience was at Denver’s Great Room Escape.
“After one game, I was mentally exhausted. It was that challenging,” Chaston said. “But I knew it was time to bring Great Room Escape to Utah.”
Great Room Escape falls under the umbrella of TAG Entertainment Enterprises, LLC and is the first step in their growing field of entertainment based attractions.
